What to wear in Egypt - Weekend in Alexandria

Ahlan (Hi!) I’m Monica. I’m a data nerd by day and travel blogger by night  based between Ottawa and Cairo.

I’m Canadian born, Polish/Slovak roots, and Egyptian by marriage!

I’m an aspiring polyglot (currently at 5 languages, and working on my 6th – Arabic!). I’m a camel obsessed teaholic with a love of maxi dresses!

I’ve been fortunate to have travelled to over 20 countries on 6 continents – I’m only missing Antartica now! I’ve had the opportunity to live on 5 continents, and my love of travel started at the age of 16.

My first time travelling to live abroad, was also my first time on a plane! I was 16 on my way for a 3-month exchange program in France, in a beautiful town in the Pyrenees. Then when in University back home in Canada, I went on a one year exchange program to Chile (Chi! Chi! Chi! Le! Le! Viva Chile!). Living in South American and being in proximity to so many amazing destinations is where I had the travel bug bite me hard.

Not long after graduating University, I found myself in a dead end job and that’s where I took a leap of faith and did an AIESEC internship in Hong Kong. It was the best decision of my life, because not only did I get to experience living in one of the most amazing places in the world, but it’s where I met my hubby!

As the daughter of two immigrants, travel runs in my blood, but it’s more than just crossing destinations off a list for me. I love to explore underrated destinations, understand new cultures and put my language skills to the test (I always try to learn a few words of the language of whatever country I travel to). Although I often write in particular about my two homes – Ottawa and Cairo, join me on my quest to travel the world, while still keeping a 9 to 5, one country at a time!
