April No-Buy Update | My No-Buy Year Challenge

April No-Buy Update | My No-Buy Year Challenge

At the end of each month I really struggle to even remember what I did the day before, can anyone else relate? The struggle is real! The month went by what seemed like faster than usual and I’m happy to say it was another no-buy success! If you’re new and unfamiliar with what a no-buy is, take a look at my no-buy year rules.

April No-buy lessons:

Shop your closet: No shopping? No problem! Trends always come back around. I was happy to see (yet again) hoop earrings and leopard print coming back into fashion for this year. So while my hoops may not be the exact style that is in, they are close enough and they save me from having to buy into something temporary and maintain the piece I’ve had for years and feel more trendy about it! You’d be surprised what trends you can find by looking and playing around with things in your closet (or your husbands, moms, sisters.. etc.).

Cravings subside: You’ll seem to wonder when it will happen and then suddenly, on a trip to the mall you don’t see a single thing you like. Or you realize you haven’t been to your favorite stores website in weeks, then it hits you, you’ve fought off the shopping bug. You’ll have to continue to fight to keep it at bay, but know that the hardest part of the journey has happened.

Fill the void: If you’re a regular spender on whatever your vice of choice is, whether it’s clothes, browsing at Target or find yet another perfect house decor item at Home Sense, everyone has their weakness. They key here though, is not to fall into old habits and to slowly break them. If you’re used to stopping by your favorite store after work, try going to the gym instead. If you’re used to browsing online, try temporarily blocking those sites and reading a book or watching a documentary instead! Take measure to make better use of your time!

April Spending Recap

This was yet another month where I didn’t have any replacement products/items to buy! I feel like there are some that will be running low and in the next month or so will need replacement. But for now, I can rejoice knowing I didn’t do any unnecessary spending this month!

No-Buy Travel Fund Balance: $831.39

The contributions from this month are coming from the $640.69 that’s in the post from last month as well as:

  • +$170 from the No-Buy (the estimated monthly amount I’m no longer spending on my No-Buy items)
  • +$20.70 from some clothing I sold at a local consignment shop

I didn’t get as much prepared as I had hoped to do more selling whether through consignment or online, but plan to do so!

Inching closer and closer to the 1k mark! It’s hard to think that in previous years this would have been wasted on clothes, make up and other temporary pleasures. What could you do with the money that you’re currently spending on non necessities? What would you spend it on, if you saved it instead? Share in the comments!!
